I said in an earlier post that I'd explain what Fartleks are, as I'm trying to make this blog as accessible as possible to new runners, and people who are interested in how well/badly I'm doing. At the time of writing this, Tuesday is my Fartlek day.

Fartlek is the Swedish word for "Speed Play", basically you go on a nice gentle run, but after a little warm up you pick a landmark, or a time, and run as fast as you can until you've reached it. Then you walk for a bit until you're ready to do it again!

It's good fun and it breaks up the monotony of just trying to run long distances each training day. It also means you don't have to run far away from home. Yesterday for fartlek day I just ran round and round the block. It made a satisfying rectangle on mapmyrun!

It's fun and stress free, but also improves stamina, gets your pulse rate going in the fast bits, and is meant to mentally prepare you for running when exhausted!

So yeah, hooray for fartleks!

Fartlek, Fartlek, Fartlek, still so much fun to say!
