One of my favourite scenes out of Harry Potter is when he buys his first wand. He goes into Ollivander's and the shopkeeper (Mr Ollivander, obviously) pulls various wands from the shelves. Harry waves them around, feeling a bit stupid until Ollivander declares that Harry is holding the perfect wand.

The closest I have ever got to this is when I went to buy running shoes at Coventry Runner. I asked for a gait analysis, which is where they put you in normal boring trainers and put you on a treadmill. They then film you in slow motion to see how your feet are landing and pushing off again.

They analyse your running and then pick out some trainers that they think will suit you. Then you run on the treadmill again, they make "Hmmmm" noises and pick out a different pair, and they do this over and over again until you've found your perfect trainer.

In case it's of any interest, these are mine.

They're a bit ostentatious for my taste, but they're so comfortable, and have a lot of bounce to them when you're running. There was another pair I liked which were like running on a cloud, but I decided the bounce would be more beneficial in the long term.

They're the Newbalance Men's Fresh Foam 1080v10, designed for softness and rebound. Really lovely!
